LGBTQ+ Training
LGBTQ+ Inclusivity Training Program
Our training program is an important part of realizing our vision of an inclusive, just, and connected world where LGBTQ+ people and communities thrive.
Trainings are conducted by our Education Coordinator, C. Castro [they/them/elle] and are available for any type of organization.
Our base training, Beyond Binary: LGBTQ+ Core Concepts & Etiquette Essentials, covers the concepts of sex assigned at birth, gender identity and expression, and sexual orientation basics and essential language and pronoun etiquette. This training is designed to establish a common foundation of understanding for participants in order to enable them to contribute to a more inclusive world. We recommend this as a starting point for LGBTQ+ inclusivity education and building a series of sessions from there.
We also offer targeted and specialized content. Existing training topics are included in the following list. We are happy to create customized content to meet your specific needs and goals (pricing and scheduling may vary). Please reach out to discuss details.
OBC’s longest-running program, Speaking Out, is a volunteer speaker's bureau comprised of LGBTQ+ community members. Click here to learn more about Speaking Out.

Generally training sessions run 90 minutes. We are also available for longer, more in-depth sessions.
For the most meaningful impact, we encourage ongoing training. This may look differently for each organization or department: recurring trainings, multiple topics in ongoing sessions, different topics targeted for different employee groups, etc. We are glad to discuss how this can best be leveraged in your specific organization.

See What Others Are Saying
“This was one of the best presentations I've ever seen. Comprehensive but not overwhelming, perfect foundational introduction, and Michal was clearly informed, enthusiastic, and very thoughtful in their words and concepts.”
“I thought the presentation was really well done, especially within the available timeframe; LGBTQ+ issues are understandably complex and I thought Michal did an excellent job in distilling things in a way that makes them more relevant and accessible to our staff. Thanks!”
“What I liked about this presentation is that it presented information in a way that was intended to inform and form positive inclusion rather than from a place of judgement. I immediately felt more comfortable with having been uninformed in the past and feel much more comfortable having a discussion with all gender identities and working to be more conscious of my language in general.”
“[Michal has] such a kind, welcoming and generous way of sharing the information that invites vulnerability and risk-taking. I so appreciate it, and the encouragement to just practice out loud, even with our pets, was brilliant.”
“Thank you for the powerful work you’re doing, and for hosting this training with us! The most actionable training I’ve participated in, and I so appreciate your “fix it and move on” mentality.”
“They did such a great job of balancing open dialogue while reinforcing the overall message. I appreciated the no-nonsense approach of how exactly how train & practice & understanding that we *will* make mistakes, but how to correct ourselves in a kind & respectful way. The insight into how to avoid centering ourselves was also very thoughtful.”
“Absolutely a comfortable & safe zone for all. Michal was clearly conscious of the possible range of education/comfort levels in the audience, and also made sure to provide accurate and realistic context and responses to potential pushback.”
“Thank you again for the incredible session you gave yesterday. We have gotten really positive feedback about it... What I think was most impactful about your presentation was your ability to weave humor and matter-of-factness into the presentation, making the information digestible and approachable. So thank you again!”
Trained Organizations
Here are some of the organizations we have previously trained (since 2018). Organizations can display our training badge on their webpage and communications materials as desired. Read more about the training badge in our blog post.
Inclusivity trainings are a part of each organization’s journey and are not a “one and done” strategy. We encourage recurring training sessions to deepen understanding, keep inclusivity centered, and to reach new staff and volunteers. Depending on the organization, trainings may have been hosted for staff, staff affinity groups, volunteers, specific program participants, and/or general public attendees.
