Out Boulder is excited to announce the "Clela Rorex Allies in Action" Award to be presented to Clela Rorex May of 2012 and then each year following to a person who shows the strength of character and conviction demonostrated by Clela Rorex in 1975!

The Award is named for Clela Rorex who, as Boulder’s city clerk in 1975, issued the world’s first legally administered marriage licenses to same-sex couples.  At the time of her foresighted and courageous action, Ms. Rorex received widespread publicity and criticism, but she never wavered from her stance that she was willing to risk her job in the service of fairness.

After 37 years, if anything, that stance has been strengthened. Reflecting on her impact in the history of Boulder’s LGBT community and her support today, Ms. Rorex says that she “grew into the role of being an ally.”
