Hello Friends of the Expressive Arts,

Mark your calendar for the second and fourth Sunday of the month for life drawing at Pridehouse. Nudes with 'Tudes is as much an opportunity to draw a live model as it is an opportunity to experience nude and costumed modeling. Those new to modeling could consider this a stage debut and explore creative expression through costumes, dramatic poses, and props.

Drawing the human form is a centuries old tradition. Technically this practice trains the eye, mind and hand to work together. Emotionally it develops empathy as we strive to capture the visual essence of another human on paper.

Taking the time to slow down and draw a living human being is a great way to keep good company with oneself in the company of others. The miracle of our being in a human body and being mutually inspired makes for an enlivening experience.

If you are interested in studying gesture drawing I recommend a DVD available at the Boulder Public Library titled ‘The Art of Gesture Drawing’ by Ellen Soderquist. According to Ms. Soderquist and in my own experience…” there exists an inherent energetic resonance between bodies we can all tap into through our own experiential physicality that informs our expression on paper.”

Bottom line is that taking time to slow down and draw a living human is one of the best ways to keep good company with oneself in the company of others that I have found. The miracle of our being in a human form and being mutually inspired as artists, which includes the models, makes for a simultaneously enlivening and restorative experience to help carry on in today's mad, mad world.
