Who Is Alex Ortega?

Originally from Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mexico, Alex migrated to the U.S. at the age of 16 and has lived in Colorado since then. Alex is undocumented, queer, unafraid, and unashamed.

Alex has always had a passion for helping other undocumented students on their path through higher education and keeping undocumented families safe from deportation. This led him to lead the way in creating a new chapter at Northern Colorado Immigrants

This led him to lead the way in creating a new chapter at Northern Colorado Immigrants United to award undocumented students with scholarships to pursue higher education, as well as leading this group for 2 years by creating space for Undocumented Latinx students to organize and make long term changes for their families and community.

On top of fighting for education access, Alex has a big passion for political issues that impact him directly such as immigration. In his career, Alex has spent his time organizing and running campaigns both issue and electoral that led him to lead one of the most successful campaigns in 2020 in the state of Colorado mobilizing 113,000 Latinx voters.

Alex currently works as the Distributed Organizing Manager at United We Dream, The largest immigrant youth network in the country, where he provides a virtual political home for hundreds of volunteers across the country who are ready to fight back.
